Consumption of Pasta

Although Turkey is a country of agriculture, the level of pasta consumption is low in comparison with other countries. The most important reason of this is that people mistakenly believe that pasta is the cause of gaining weight. But this is completely wrong. Pasta's calorie value is less than in many other foods. 100 g of plain uncooked pasta (a big grown up portion when it is cooked) contains 370 calories and therefore it is a recommended meal in many diets. Besides this Pasta has a low Glycemic Index (GI) so it does not cause sugar in the blood to rise quickly. The GI measures how rapidly a carbohydrate triggers a rise in blood sugar – the higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response.
